Lyco Taiko and DIY drums

Lyco Taiko and DIY drums

Engage with taiko! A centuries-old tradition throughout Japan, since the 1950s taiko has become an international activity, spreading even to the Susquehanna Valley. Watch local drummers perform repertoire in the Tokyo-style, and try it for yourself!

The members of Lyco Taiko will present a small performance of Japanese taiko (folk drumming), provide a chance for attendees to try it themselves, and show off our home-made “practice drums”.

A crowd favorite returns for the 2018 Bloomsburg Mini Maker Faire!

Christine Luschas!

Decorated eggs are an ancient custom that spans throughout Eastern Europe. In Lithuania the eggs (Marguciai) were either dyed and the design scratched with a sharp tool or wax was applied using the batik method. Natural dyes were used from plant base materials such as dried birch leaves and onion skins. Today, commercial dyes are used which gives the egg a brighter and richer hue.
I will be selling handcrafted etched eggs (goose, duck, turkey, chicken,) that have been dyed then scratched with a blade according to the traditions of my Lithuanian/American family. I began etching eggs fifteen years ago and it has become a relaxation tool as well as a passion. I have exhibited, demonstrated and spoke at several museums and ethnic festivals. In 2012 I appeared on the “Martha Stewart Show” to show the ‘Queen of Crafting’ how to scratch an egg.
