Commonwealth Charter Academy will be at the Bloomsburg Mini Maker Faire with AgWorks! AgWorks at CCA is the largest public educational aquaponics facility in the country, using state-of-the-art technology to create a controlled environment of agriculture that provides learning experiences for students of all ages. In our Capital Campus and Family Service Center in Harrisburg, students learn to operate the 6,100-square-foot facility that is capable of producing around 3,000 plants and trees with the help of more than 400 tilapia, koi, and prawns. By leveraging aquaponics and hydroponics, we produce vegetables, plants, and even trees within our building. This sustainable, zero-waste ecosystem uses fish to fertilize plants, resulting in higher yields of produce than traditional agriculture. Bio-controls are used in place of harmful pesticides, ensuring our GMO-free produce is free of contaminants.
